Clinical indications
IL-6 may be used to assess tyrosine phosphorylation of STAT 3. Mutations in STAT 3 cause Hyper IgE Syndrome. For patients with early onset autoimmune disease increased tyrosine phosphorylation of STAT 3 can indicate a gain of function STAT 3 mutation. Request STAT3 to IL-10 for VEOIBD patients where IL-10R deficiency is being considered
Specimen requirement
1mls EDTA plus a healthy control sample. Please send 1ml extra EDTA for DNA storage

Samples should be less than 24 hours old. R&D Assay. This test should only be undertaken under the direction of a Consultant Immunologist/ Senior Clinical Scientist. External referrals must be discussed with Dr Kimberly Gilmour (020 7813 8466) or her deputy and accompanied by a completed referral form (available on website)
