Clinical indications

Retinol Binding Protein is a 21 KDa circulating carrier protein of vitamin A secreted by hepatocytes. In the circulation 90% is bound to pre-albumin. Following rapid dissociation from pre-albumin it is filtered, reabsorbed and catabolised by the renal tubules. Elevated levels in the urine indicate tubular dysfunction
