Clinical indications
Low or absent natural killer (NK) cell activity is common prior to and during active disease, as well as after remission following chemotherapy in a significant proportion of individuals with Familial HLH. Only offered after discussion with Clinical Lead. Perforin, GRA (SAP/XIAP if male) should be used to screen patients suspected of primary HLH
Specimen requirement
10 mls lithium heparin plus a healthy control sample. Please send 1ml extra EDTA for DNA storage
Dispatch and handling instructions
This is a 2-day assay, please do not send on a Friday. Samples should be less than 24 hours old. R&D Assay. LSS should be requested to ensure the presence of NK cells before assay setup. This test should only be undertaken under the direction of a Consultant Immunologist/ Senior Clinical Scientist. External referrals must be discussed with Dr Kimberly Gilmour (020 7813 8466) or her deputy and accompanied by a completed referral form (available on website)
