Clinical indications
Acquired zinc deficiency may occur in prolonged malabsorption, during parenteral nutrition, as a result of longstanding diet rich in zinc chelating agents or in a rare condition of defection zinc secretion in breast milk. Acrodermatitis enteropathica is a congenital condition of impaired zinc absorption resulting in skin lesions, alopecia and diarrhoea. Zinc deficiency results in low activity of alkaline phosphatase in plasma
