Clinical indications
Pyruvate is measured with lactate to assist in the differential diagnosis of lactic acidosis. The lactate/pyruvate ratio reflects the cytoplasmic NADH/NAD ratio which is raised in respiratory chain disorders as opposed to other causes of lactic acidosis
Specimen requirement
perchloric acid precipitation (see user guide for protocol)
