Clinical indications
Plasma/serum glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is indicated for patients who have had or are being considered for renal transplant. It is also used to assess renal clearance of patients who are on cytotoxic therapy. Drug dosages may need to be reduced or omitted if patients show reduced clearance
Specimen requirement
0.5ml plain white serum. Samples should be collected at zero (baseline), three and four hours post I.V injection of the appropriate dose of iohexol. Please ensure specimens are collected according to the GFR Iohexol Procedure and use Appendex 4 GFR form
