Bone Marrow Transplant - Occupational Therapy
The occupational therapist is available during Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) clinics and on the ward to address concerns you may have about your child's development or participation in daily activities.
The occupational therapist completes developmental screenings for children five years and under who undergo a BMT as part of their pre-BMT workup. This screening may take place during an out-patient appointment or once you have arrived on the ward. Developmental advice and treatment ideas will then be given to you and your child. The occupational therapist can also support with self-care skills, fatigue management and increasing independence following long hospital admissions and periods of isolation.
Whichever specialty your child falls under the occupational therapist is available to answer your questions and to support local occupational therapy services to ensure continuity in care.
