Clinics and wards related to the Radiology department
The Radiology Department at Great Ormond Street Hospital works from the Radiology Ward. This is where children are diagnosed and treated using scans and Interventional Radiology.Children come here for scans like MRI scans or ultrasound scans or have procedures like angiography or biopsies.
Many of the studies we perform involve the use of X-rays. Legally, we are obliged to ask any girls over the age of 12 whether there is any chance they might be pregnant. This is to protect any unborn children from receiving un-necessary radiation.
Mothers accompanying their children for tests, who may be needed to help hold their child still during the study, may also be asked this question.
