About the Neuroimmunology Centre

The Neuroimmunology Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) is a national referral centre dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of children with demyelinating conditions and immune mediated neurological conditions. These children need to be already under the care of a paediatrician or paediatric neurology specialist.

These conditions include multiple sclerosis (MS) and other related demyelinating conditions such as acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM), transverse myelitis, optic neuritis, MOG antibody disorders (MOGAD) and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD). Children with non-demyelinating immune conditions affecting the central nervous system, such as opsoclonus myoclonus (OMS) and autoimmune encephalitis are also seen and managed here.

The GOSH Neuroimmunology Centre is part of the UK Demyelinating Disease Network, and collaborates with the other national centres from around England to ensure comprehensive care for this complex group of neurological conditions.

The Neuroimmunology centre provides multi-disciplinary care. This means that your child may be seen and cared for by a team of health care workers. These professionals can include paediatric neurologists, paediatric rheumatologists, clinical nurse specialists, clinical and neuropsychologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and a social worker. We always also work in shared care with your child's local paediatric team.

The Neuroimmunology Centre also runs several family days during the year. These days are focused on getting the young people and their families together with other young people with similar conditions and are an invaluable source of support and information. We also run transition days for the young people aged 13 years and above which allows them the opportunity to discuss the process of transition and start planning for the future.
