Nephrology admission criteria

This is a list of patient diagnoses which are admitted to Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) by our Nephrology team, the timeframe in which they should be treated and their estimated length of stay (LoS). 
Health professionals are reminded that this information is for guidance only.

Emergency admissions

Children with the following diagnoses are considered an emergency and should be transferred to GOSH within hours from receipt of referral.

Acute/chronic glomerulonephritis (may also present as urgent) Case dependent
Complications of dialysis - line infection; failure of access; fluid overload; biochemical abnormalities Case dependent
Complications of renal transplant - infection; rejection Case dependent
Hypertension (may also present as urgent) Case dependent
Nephrotic syndrome (may also present as urgent) Case dependent
Renal calculi (may also present as urgent) Case dependent
Renal transplant Case dependent
Severe fluid derangements Case dependent
Urinary tract infection in the abnormal renal tract (may also present as urgent) Case dependent

Urgent admissions
