Referrals
For virtually all cases (except in very exceptional circumstances) the local clinical team will be required to continue to hold care coordination responsibilities. Therefore, referrals are accepted from:
- Tier 3 CAMHS professionals (including consultant psychiatrists, clinical psychologists and mental health professionals)
- Consultant paediatricians at GOSH (and locally when child is currently under a CAMHS service).
- Primary care referrals will be accepted only when tier 3 CAMHS is already involved and holds responsibility for a child’s care.
- Children and young people aged from 4 years up to 17 years
- Children and young people under the care of a local Tier 3 CAMHS team.
- Diagnosis of ASD formally assessed locally in line with current clinical guidelines.
- Children of normal-range or high intelligence.
- Children younger than 4 years of age or over the age of 1
- Children and young people with a learning disability and/or under special education provision.
- Primary care referral or parent self-referral without evidence of local CAMHS team involvement.
- If there is no doubt about the diagnosis of ASD (unless the referral is for complex consultation/intervention only).
- Where there is no previous formal assessment of ASD.
- Presence of a psychiatric disorder or difficulty requiring urgent assessment or treatment (e.g. acute anxiety, psychosis, or current self-harm and suicidal ideation), unless under CAMHS for risk management and/or undergoing medical treatment.
- The clinical questions to be addressed (including information regarding current concerns and difficulties experienced.
- Summary of developmental and recent history.
- Copies of previous diagnostic assessments and diagnostic reports.
- Evidence that the local CAMHS team is involved.
