Getting referred to the Interventional Radiology Service
As a tertiary care hospital, all children who attend Great Ormond Street Hospital must be referred via local hospital consultants, community paediatricians or, in exceptional circumstances, via a GP.The Interventional Radiology Service does not admit patients directly under our care; instead we see and treat patients on behalf of other teams in the hospital who refer their patients to us for specific procedures.
We run a monthly outpatient clinic in which we review patients for follow up after procedures, or see new patients when other doctors have asked us to consider treating them for particular conditions.
We are closely involved in coordinating and providing diagnostic imaging tests such as ultrasound and MRI in the hospital’s main Radiology Department for IR patients.
If you are a health professional looking to make a referral, please visit our guideline on how to refer a patient.
