Research at the Immunology department
The Immunology department at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) is actively involved in many aspects of research. The department shares close collaborations with the Molecular Immunology and Immunobiology Programmes in the UCL Institute of Child Health.
This research is aimed at improving the care and outlook of children affected by immune deficiencies. Families may be approached to seek permission for children to participate in these studies while they are under the care of GOSH. This may include permission to take extra blood or tissue samples – either to be stored in case they are needed for research or diagnostic tests in the future, or for research currently taking place.
Research studies are always fully explained and information sheets provided and consent is always sought. Participation in research studies is, however, completely optional.
