Pre-admission clinics
Approximately 12 weeks prior to your child’s operation and admission to hospital, most children will be asked to come to hospital for an assessment day by the medical team. The clinical nurse specialist will arrange this appointment with you by phone and letter.
The assessment will be led by a clinical nurse specialist and usually there will be a range of clinicians and investigations to ensure that your child is fully prepared for upcoming surgery.
After this assessment day, your child will be discussed at a Multi-Disciplinary Team meeting with a number of Consultants.

There is a high dependency unit for children that have undergone major surgery. Patients may be staying on other wards as well, especially if only admitted for day surgery.
