Pre-admission clinics
Approximately eight to 10 weeks prior to your child’s operation and admission to hospital, most children will be asked to come to hospital for an assessment by the medical team. The clinical nurse specialist will arrange this appointment with you by phone and letter.
The assessment will be led by a clinical nurse specialist and usually there will be a physiotherapy assessment or an occupational therapy assessment at the same time. Sometimes blood test or X-rays may be taken. You meet your child’s consultant or a member of their team.

Staying at the hospital
Most patients will stay on Sky Ward, an 18-bed-ward in the Octav Botnar Wing. There is a high dependency unit for children that have undergone major surgery. Patients may be staying on other wards as well but will be seen by the Orthopaedic clinical team.
If you have any questions about your stay at the Hospital, please contact Sky Ward.
