New chief nurse appointed at Great Ormond Street Hospital

Alison Robertson has been appointed as the new Chief Nurse at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). Alison is currently Executive Director of Nursing for Al Wakra Hospital, Hamad Medical Corporation in Qatar, one of the leading hospital providers in the Middle East.

“We have worked meticulously to find the best person to take on the vital role of Chief Nurse. Alison brings an excellent understanding of the importance and impact of nursing, balanced by grounded operational experience and a real sense of GOSH’s strategic position,” said Dr Peter Steer, Chief Executive at GOSH.

“Alison is a powerful advocate for children, children’s nursing and for allied health professions and we are very much looking forward to welcoming her to the GOSH executive management team.”

Alison is a highly experienced Chief Nurse and has held this post at a number of different teaching hospitals, delivering corporate direction to the quality, safety and experience agenda. She has led nursing and midwifery in five different organisations over the last 16 years, working at clinical, operational and strategic levels. She was also Visiting Professor at the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery at King’s College, London.

“I am absolutely delighted to be re-joining Great Ormond Street Hospital, where I began my nursing career, as Chief Nurse. I am very happy to have this opportunity to work with the team at GOSH to take its renowned patient care from strength to strength,” said Alison Robertson.

Alison is a qualified adult and children’s nurse who trained and worked at GOSH from 1983 to 1987 where she held her first staff nurse post on the GOSH neurosurgical unit. She will be taking up her new post in the spring of 2018, replacing Juliette Greenwood who retired as GOSH Chief Nurse at the end of October 2017.
