Introducing the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health

From Monday 1 August 2016, the UCL Institute of Child Health (ICH) will be renamed the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health.

Together, GOSH and the ICH represent the largest concentration of paediatric research expertise in Europe, and the largest outside of North America. This name change reflects the close and unique partnership between Great Ormond Street Hospital and its research partner, ICH, in driving the successful development of innovative new treatments for children with rare diseases.

The two organisations have been working in collaborative partnership ever since the ICH was founded in 1946 and this name change formally acknowledges the close alignment between the world-leading research programmes being undertaken at ICH and GOSH which contribute to improvements in care and treatment globally. The quality of the research taking place at both institutions is evidenced by data showing that for the five years to 2015 papers published by GOSH/ICH researchers have had the highest citation impact of any of the top five children’s hospitals in the world.

Dr Peter Steer, Chief Executive of Great Ormond Street Hospital, says: “Today represents the beginning of even stronger ties between our hospital and the research institute. This partnership will enable us to continue to make great strides forward in the developing new treatments and cures for children with complex and rare diseases, both across the country and globally.”
