Great Ormond Street Hospital wins £3 million extra funding for its Somers Clinical Research Facility centre

Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) wins £3million for its world leading Somers Clinical Research Facility. This centre is a dedicated space for children from across the UK undergoing clinical treatment trials.

Since 2013 The CRF team have supported 92 early phase studies and helped coordinate clinical research across the hospital.

The new funding will allow the centre to focus on more complex early research for some of the rarest childhood conditions.

William Van’t Hoff, Head of the Somers Clinical Research Facility, said:

“This announcement is hugely important for GOSH and its capacity to carry out research. Without facilities like the Somers CRF, children would not have been able to access the life-changing treatment they desperately need.

“I am delighted that this award recognises the hard work of the CRF team so far. We will now be able to support more complex studies for children.”

Dr Peter Steer, Chief Executive of Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust, said:

“We’re thrilled that our specialist research facility has been selected by the NIHR for this vital funding.

“This will be instrumental in helping us to further develop cutting edge treatment and cures for children with some of the rarest and most complex conditions across the country, and indeed the world.”
