Great Ormond Street Hospital appoints new Medical Director

The world-renowned children’s hospital has appointed Matthew Shaw to take over the position of Medical Director at the start of the next financial year.Matthew is a highly experienced clinical leader. He is a practicing orthopaedic surgeon and has been Clinical Director of the spinal unit at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) for the last seven years. He was also, until recently, the Medical Director and Deputy Chief Executive of the RNOH for five years. Matthew has recently been working as Medical Director for Health Provision in BUPA UK.
Matthew said, “I am absolutely delighted to have been appointed as Medical Director at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). I am really pleased to be able to bring my experience to the role and to this outstanding specialist hospital.”
As the Medical Director, Matthew will be the executive lead for patient and staff safety and clinical quality within the hospital, providing professional leadership to the medical body at GOSH. His role will also be responsible for postgraduate medical education and training for doctors, medical workforce development and partnership services
Chief Executive Officer Peter Steer said, “We look forward to welcoming Matthew to Great Ormond Street Hospital next year. He comes to us with a wealth of experience that will be of huge benefit to both the staff and patients at GOSH.”
