Clinical science: a week on Twitter
31 Mar 2017, 11:01 a.m.
Today marks the last day of Hannah Robinson’s take-over of the @NHS Twitter account. Hannah, who works as Trainee Clinical Scientist at Great Ormond Street Hospital’s (GOSH) Genetics Laboratory, has been tweeting regularly this week on a host of Genetics topics.Hannah has opened the door of her laboratory and shone a light on the varied work performed at GOSH, demonstrating the real difference this work makes to patient care. Hannah has really enjoyed the opportunity to connect to an audience and hear stories from patients who have benefited from the work of Clinical Scientists.
Illuminating work
From making the differences between Genomics and Genetics clear to understand, filming the robots which extract DNA from patients' blood samples, to clarifying for young patients how their samples are tested – Hannah has had a hectic and enjoyable week, squeezing her social media work around her role as a Trainee Clinical Scientist.
As Hannah prepares to hand the NHS Twitter baton on, she reflects on a busy week:
“It’s been great to highlight the work which goes on at the laboratory and hear back from patients and read their stories. Some healthcare scientists see patients regularly in wards and clinics, while others, like myself in Genetics, are working ‘behind the scenes’ in the labs. So seeing these first hand stories from patients and receiving support from the wider science community is really rewarding.”
