Akhter Mateen appointed as new Non-Executive Director
12 Mar 2015, 12:53 p.m.
Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust (GOSH) has appointed Akhter Mateen as a new non-executive director.
Mr Mateen will join six other non-executive directors on the Trust Board, who collectively contribute to developing the Trust’s strategy, monitoring its performance and representing GOSH externally.
Mr Mateen worked as Group Chief Auditor of Unilever until 2012 and brings a wealth of experience in strategy development, business transformation and a sound knowledge of corporate governance. During his career he has worked in global and regional roles at Unilever and has led the regional Unilever finance teams in Latin America, South East Asia and Australasia.
Throughout his career he has gained experience in leading teams, developing and mentoring leaders and overcoming the challenges involved in managing change.
He has more recently stepped down from full time employment, allowing him time to fulfil his new role at GOSH.
Mr Mateen has an MBA in Finance and holds a non-executive director position on a multi-national company and is also a director of a not-for-profit foundation.
Commenting on his new appointment, Mr Mateen said:
“I am delighted to be appointed to the GOSH Board. This is a centre of excellence and I am looking forward to contributing to its development as the leading-edge clinical care provider to children and a centre for innovative research in treatments for children.”
Mr Mateen is due to take up his appointment on the GOSH Board on 28 March 2015. He replaces non-executive director John Ripley, who is stepping down from his position.
