To celebrate International Clinical Trials Day, patients and their families are invited to the Research Activity Trail! Follow the trail around the main reception and The Lagoon and take part in fun hands on activities along the way. Come along to try our superbug arcade, see a real 3D printer, and look at muscle cells under the microscope. There will also be a chance to meet GOSH researchers and to learn all about how our ground-breaking research studies and trials help us find treatments and cures for childhood conditions.
Activities include:
- Vegetable biopsies – take a sample from a vegetable and hear about research in the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) GOSH Clinical Research Facility
- Cell Therapy Lab – dress up in special clean room suits and become a research lab ‘assistant’
- My DNA – Discover how your genes determine your blood type, run a DNA gel and learn about gene therapy research
- Superbug Arcade – Learn about microbes by swabbing a phone to see what bugs are living on it
- Super stem cells – Find out where stem cells are found in your body and build a model of DNA from sweets
- Muscles under the microscope – Discover what muscle cells look like close up!
- Get Creative! – Our roving designers need YOUR help to design information stations in the new Zayed Centre for Research
- My immune system – Explore the human skeleton and learn about how our bodies fight diseases
- When cells attack! – Play a card game, and colour in joints to discover how the body fights infection C
- 3D hearts – See a real 3D printer and discover what your heart looks like
