Holan Liang
Dr Holan Liang is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. She is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Child Health, University College London. She has previously been Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist at the South London & Maudsley NHS Trust and Clinical Research Fellow at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience. Her special interests are neurodevelopmental disorders (ADHD, learning difficulty, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Tourette’s Syndrome) and their overlap with genetics and psychiatric co-morbidity.
Specialisms
All aspects of severe and complex child mental health problems are seen by the Psychological Medicine team, in particular:
- the mental health needs of children with long-term illness
- neuropsychiatry
- Tourette syndrome
- medically unexplained symptoms and conversion disorders
- obsessive compulsive disorder
- directing children and families to our Intervention Service

Qualifications

Dr Liang was awarded degrees in Experimental Psychology, Medicine and Surgery from Cambridge University. After working in general medicine and surgery, she conducted epidemiological research in child psychiatry at The University of Cape Town. She trained in psychiatry and child psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital where she was also Honorary Clinical Lecturer and later Clinical Research Fellow.
Research Interests
Dr Liang has had varied research interests ranging from epidemiology, behavioural genetics and neurodevelopmental disorders in genetic conditions. She has been involved in commercial and non-commercial drug trials. She has written several peer reviewed papers, book chapters and a commercial parenting book: Inside Out Parenting (Bluebird Books). She has written and featured in commercial press including The Times, The Observer and Red Magazine.
