Ben Hartley

He has specialised exclusively in paediatric ENT disorders. His work covers the full spectrum children’s ENT disease. He is world renowned for paediatric head and neck tumour and malformation surgery including lymphatic and vascular anomalies.

He has major interest in airway surgery including laryngo-tracheal reconstruction. He is the senior surgeon in the cochlear implant program at GOSH.

He completed his medical training in London at St Georges Hospital Medical School (MBBS 1990). During his training he undertook a BSc in Basic Medical Science with biochemistry (BSc hons, University of London 1987).

He completed his basic surgical training in London and then passed the Applied Basic Science Exam (Primary FRCS) of the Royal college of Surgeons of England. He was awarded the prestigious Hallet Medal as the highest overall performing candidate in the UK.

He entered specialty training in ENT and completed the six year program in the North Thames Region. His interest in paediatric ENT then took him to the USA where he completed a one year clinical fellowship in Cincinnati, Ohio under the instruction of Dr Robin Cotton, one of the most eminent experts in the field of paediatric ENT.

Following his return he was appointed as consultant at GOSH.

He has published very extensively on surgical techniques for subglottic stenosis and paediatric airway disease as well as head and neck tumours and malformations. This includes more than 70 peer review publications and multiple book chapters.

He teaches widely and lectures all over the world. He has been running the highly successful British Paediatric Otolaryngology Course since 2003.
