GOSH Learning Academy Events, Face-to-face

Ryan Connolly Room, Zayed Centre for Research, London

This innovative one-day course series provides an in-depth review of specific congenital heart diseases using combined Anatomy Labs, Echocardiographic simulators and a novel Virtual Reality (VR) experience.

Course Director:

Dr Beatrice Bonello, GOSH, Prof Andrew Cook, UCL/GOSH, Dr Claudio Capelli, UCL/GOSH, Professor Jan Marek, GOSH

Event Overview:

Led by a multi-disciplinary team of consultants morphologists and engineers from GOSH and UCL, this unique training offers an in-depth review of simple and complex interatrial communications; double outlet right ventricle; and ventricular septal defects, in order to address the challenges of lesions with marked anatomical variability:

  • Access to anatomical lab with hands-on sessions
  • Echocardiographic imaging and training in congenital heart disease
  • Cardiac morphology training through our unique, immersive VR experience.

Led by VheaRts - a collaborative project between researchers from University College London and clinicians at Great Ormond Street Hospital

Learning objectives:

  • To understand the anatomical variability in Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) & Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV) and the challenges of repairs
  • To identify the relevant information with echocardiography
  • To familiarise working with VR technology for future learning and planning

Who should attend:

The course is aimed at Junior doctors, Cardiac Physiologists and Consultants in paediatric cardiology and adult congenital heart disease specialists and Echocardiography Technicians sonographers working with congenital heart disease patients.

No previous VR experience is required.

Event pricing:

  • £300 Standard ticket rate
  • £250 GOSH staff, UCL staff and AEPC Junior Members
