CAST Simulation Day
16 Mar 2017, 11:49 a.m.
The Clinical Simulation Centre regularly hosts a course known as CAST – CATS Stabilisation for Transport. This is run by the Children’s Acute Transport Service (CATS).
The scenarios in this course are based around recognition of the need to involve CATS in a situation with a critically ill child and stabilising them ready to be transported to a specialist centre. This could be based in a district general hospital or an A&E department.
The course attracts candidates with a background in paediatrics and emergency medicine, and includes varying medical and nursing grades. There is a strong focus on teamwork and encouraging good communication during the scenarios.
The faculty is made up of staff from CATS who give their time to help promote good team working among staff for the benefit of critically ill patients. They will also receive advanced technical support from the simulation team on the day. CAST is one of our biggest and most successful courses and we continue to run it regularly.
