Hoong-Wei Gan

Education Lead for Digital Learning

Dr Hoong-Wei Gan
BMedSci (Hons) BMBS MSc PhD MRCPCH

Hoong-Wei is a consultant paediatric endocrinologist who is also Lead for Education and Training within the department of endocrinology at GOSH. He qualified in medicine at the University of Nottingham Medical School (2006), paediatric endocrinology in Nottingham and London, and completed research degrees (MSc 2013, PhD 2020) at the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health.

He has particular interests in the use of high quality digital learning platforms and social media to disseminate educational materials more widely within and outside GOSH, particularly in the post-Covid era. He would also like to see these tools used to improve the learning experience of trainee doctors, such as in the context of induction processes across the Trust.

Lead Digital Learning Manager

Emma Ip BSc MSc PGDip (Child)

Emma is a paediatric nurse who trained at King's College London. She was working at The Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne when they implemented their EPR system, Epic and Emma saw first-hand how technology can directly improve the experience of healthcare professionals and their patients.

In 2018, Emma returned to the UK and joined GOSH as a research nurse, before moving into the digital field as an educator in EPR Training team where she gained Epic build Certification to support training and system improvements. Emma joined the Digital Learning team at its inception in 2020 and has helped to establish the team as part of the GOSH Learning Academy. As part of the Digital Learning team, Emma's enthusiasm and energy for education and technology helps to drive the team forward in creating innovative education packages for our staff, and subsequently improve our patients' experiences.

Learning Management System Manager

Ivanina Trifonova
BA, MA, PGCE (with QTS), CELTA

Ivanina is a digital learning professional with an extensive teaching experience and strong interest in virtual learning environments (VLEs), blended learning and learning technologies. Both her undergraduate and postgraduate degrees are in Applied Linguistics and TESOL, she is QTS and CELTA certified and has recently completed a Diploma in Digital Learning Design.

Before joining GOSH as a Digital Learning Officer in 2020, she taught English as a Foreign Language/English for Academic Purposes at schools and universities in England, Scotland and Thailand for 10 years. In her last position at Kingston University, she also acted as an eLearning Champion and helped academics and students with the use of technology in the classroom and the university's VLE.

Ivanina is interested in how technology can facilitate teaching and make it more engaging and impactful. She is also passionate about supporting educators at GOSH to utilise the Digital Learning Network (DEN) and enhance their blended and online teaching practices.

Digital Learning Officer

Shriti Karia
Shriti beavers away at creating digital content ranging from creating interactive and engaging eLearning, editing videos and creating educational animations. Shriti is passionate about being able to support healthcare colleagues in providing for children and young people. Shriti has various eLearning and design qualifications, as well as a CIPD qualification in Learning and Development and so, provides valued consultancy and experience in our digital learning offerings.

Digital Learning Officer

Owen Court

Owen is an Award-winning Instructional Designer now working within the GLA as a Digital Learning Officer. He studied a Higher National Diploma in Creative media production and has previously worked for Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service creating training packages for their Training Academy and worked a world leading global energy supplier.

He has a passion for creating short form, bitesize training packages that are easily digestible and easy to view in short bursts.

His interests are in graphic design, eLearning and Video production and enjoys using the skills he has developed over the past 10 years to create meaningful and engaging content.

He has gained experience and qualifications in Instructional Design over the past 4 years, culminating in him being crowned “Learning Developer of the year 2020” and the Learning Technologies awards and he looks forward to being a key member of the team driving GOSH learning forward and innovating training to ensure GOSH is at the forefront of the digital learning industry.

Shereen Brown

Senior Business Support Officer

Shereen Brown

Shereen has gained over 3 years’ experience working within the NHS. She started her career as an apprentice and gained a distinction in Level 3 Business Administration.

She takes pride in using her artistic background to provide and find creative solutions to solve problems. She is passionate about helping others realise their full potential and achieve their goals. In addition, she is eager to build on her knowledge of digital learning through continued professional development. In her current role, Shereen’s goals are to provide strong administration support for the Digital Learning Team and the virtual learning environment and coordinate all governance.

Besides being a Business Support officer, Shereen has also been recognised by The London School of Capoeira for her extraordinary commitment and has been a trustee for over 2 years.
