This one-day simulation-based study day focuses on the safe and effective care of children and young people with mental health difficulties

Course overview

On this study day, in a welcoming and confidential setting, participants will reflect on real case examples, learn key skills in risk assessment, and practice communicating with a young person in distress.

Learning outcomes:

  • Enhance practice in the care of young people with mental health difficulties.
  • Judge what information is relevant to provide when referring to child and adolescent psychiatry.
  • Appreciate the importance of reflective case-based discussion as part of sustainable practice.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the legal framework for children and adolescents presenting with mental health difficulties.
  • Formulate a risk assessment of children and adolescents presenting with mental health difficulties in paediatric settings.
  • Develop key skills in sensitive risk assessment through practice with a trained actor.

Who is the course for:

Any patient-facing hospital staff who informally or formally assess risk or encounter risk in the young people they see

Cost of Course:

  • free for GOSH staff
  • £150 for external candidates
