Do you ever feel worried about the safety of a family or child but unsure about how to proceed? As the picture is often incomplete, we can feel hesitant about what to look out for and what to convey to families and colleagues. Through case-based discussion, simulation, and interactive teaching, this course will empower you to take responsibility for getting safeguarding conversations started.

Course overview

On this course, we’ll discuss complex case examples and reflect on learners’ previous experiences of safeguarding concerns. Our subject matter expert will clarify key information around safeguarding and we’ll examine why, from a psychological viewpoint, the temptation to “turn a blind eye” to risk can be significant.

In the afternoon, we’ll practice starting conversations about safeguarding with a trained actor. Learners will hopefully leave with an understanding of what can feel so overwhelming about safeguarding concerns, along with new insights and tools that will help them get such conversations started.
