Healthcare Science Education
Healthcare Science (HCS) covers four areas: Life Sciences, Physiological Sciences, Physical Sciences & Biomedical Engineering and Bioinformatics.
There are 52 different disciplines of healthcare science of which 35 are hosted at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). The HCS education team are here to support the HCS workforce at GOSH throughout your entire career from training to qualified and beyond.
Trainees
We support all trainees and students on formal education pathways and facilitate departments to take them on. These include apprenticeships, undergraduate placements, Scientist Training Programme (STP) and Higher Specialist Scientist Training Programme (HSST).
Professional Development
In partnerships with our services, education is focused on clinical delivery as well as personal professional development. We support the 800+ strong HCS workforce by facilitating and developing education and training based around the five principles of Good Scientific Practice (GSP):
- Professional Practice
- Scientific Practice
- Clinical Practice
- Research, Development & Innovation
- Leadership
The team has expertise in all registration routes for HCS including statutory registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Biomedical Scientists and Clinical Scientist pathways as well as voluntary registration.
Outreach
Away from clinical delivery we work with local schools and colleges to promote our professions and inspire the next generation of healthcare scientists. Our team runs and supports others at outreach events including the Kings Award winning Science4U.
In preparation for events like these we have run public engagement training for those who require which has led to further collaborations across GOSH running these sessions for various healthcare professionals.
