Care of Children and Young People Undergoing Extra Corporeal Life Support (ECMO)
The major focus of this module is the development of enhanced nursing practice in paediatric intensive care for children receiving ECMO.
Overview
This module aims to provide the learner with the skills, knowledge and understanding to care for the complex population of critically ill children receiving Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). Practical skill acquisition and application of theoretical knowledge to a wide variety of clinical scenarios is a primary theme.
The module follows a multidisciplinary approach with focus on the psychological and physiological effects of extra corporeal support, as well as the importance of family centred care within the critical care period.
