Annual General Meeting and Annual Members' Meeting 2022

On Wednesday 7 September 2022. we celebrated our partnerships at the Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) Annual General Meeting and Annual Members Meeting.

Highlights

The meeting was an opportunity to hear colleagues present on our performance in 2021/22 and how we have worked together with our partners to improve services and provide the best possible care to children and young people.

The agenda featured presentations from:

  • Chief Executive, Matthew Shaw
  • Our Staff Networks: April Howard from the Pride Network, Lisa Mennie from Women’s Network, Kristian Ademola from the REACH Network and Caroline Anderson, ENABLED Network
  • Medical Director, Prof Sanjiv Sharma
  • Interim Chief Finance Officer, Margaret Ashworth
  • Lead Governor, Beverly Bittner-Grassby

Some of the key achievements in 2021/22 included:

  • The fiftieth patient received a thymus transplant at GOSH (April 2021)
  • ADA-SCID gene therapy breakthrough (May 2021)
  • The Sight and Sound Building opened (June 2021)
  • The GOSH Learning Academy launched the GOSH Digital Education Network (GOSH DEN) (July 2021)
  • GOSH brought the domestic services team in house (August 2021)
  • The launch of the Big Conversation; an initiative designed to spark conversations on important topics. The first was dedicated to Ally ship (September 2021)
  • GOSH patient was the youngest to receive ‘mismatched heart’ transplant (October 2021)
  • The largest ever stem cell clinical trial for children with severe genetic skin condition got underway (November 2021)
  • GOSH won the Regional Large Employer Award and was National Highly Commended Large Employer at the National Apprenticeship Awards (December 2021)
  • GOSH research showed pre-screening for Spinal Muscular Atrophy is possible through new-born blood spot test (January 2022)
  • We celebrated our 170th birthday (February 2022)
  • We held two Super Saturday events to help tackle the waiting lists (March 2022)

Throughout the meeting we celebrated our local, regional, national and international partnerships along with digital and research developments throughout the year. We also discussed the Trust's finances and the costs associated with exploring new ways of working in order to enable services were ongoing and staff were kept safe. Also on the agenda was a discussion around our membership, how we communicate with them and plans for the future as well as activities of the Council of Governors.
