NHS Electronic Referral Service (e-RS)
GP referrals to all of our consultant-led services are available through e-RS.
The NHS e-Referrals Service (previously known as Choose and Book) is an electronic referral service that allows GPs to choose the location of their first outpatient appointment. All GOSH clinics on e-RS will be using a Referral Assessment Service (RAS), allowing triage of referrals prior to offering an appointment.
Referral Assessment Services (RAS)
A Referral Assessment Service (RAS) lets a provider review the Clinical Referral information (CRI) without the need for an appointment. This lets the provider assess the CRI from the GP/Referrer, decide on the most appropriate onward clinical pathway and then contact the patient to discuss choice and arrange an appointment.

Why are we doing this?
The Standard Contract for 2018/19 mandates full use of the NHS e-Referral Service (i.e. electronic booking) for all consultant-led first outpatient appointments following a GP referral. This means all GOSH referral activity needs to come via e-RS*. Failure to do so will result in non-payment for any first outpatient attendance.
*Some exclusions apply.
